KGI Life has become the first insurer in Taiwan to publish a survey on financial, insurance and fraud awareness among new immigrants, conducted with the New Immigrant Family Development Association.
The survey found that 45 percent of respondents said they or people close to them had encountered fraud, with the figure exceeding 50 percent among those who have lived in Taiwan for more than 21 years. That suggests demand for anti-fraud education does not fade as newcomers settle in, and that fraud risk persists through financial transactions and internet use. The most common scams involved personal networks and online settings, including impersonation of relatives or friends asking to borrow money at 22 percent and fake shopping sites at 20 percent.
Respondents said they hear about insurance mainly from relatives, fellow nationals and colleagues, ahead of insurers or agents. Most had bought policies for themselves or their families, indicating that financial needs shift over time from daily adaptation and language support toward long-term life planning, with attention moving from medical coverage to long-term care, retirement and family protection.
Beyond language, product selection and claims remain obstacles. The most cited difficulties were not knowing which policies suit them at 29 percent and worries about claims at 24 percent. Respondents preferred case studies, plain Chinese with illustrations and simulated claim applications. KGI Life, which has run financial, insurance and anti-fraud courses for new immigrants for three years, also holds internal training to deepen staff understanding of diverse customers and has issued the industry's first Accessible Service Guide for New Immigrant Customers. Its work has earned recognition including the Insurance Inclusion Initiative of the Year at the 2025 Insurance Asia Awards. The Company will keep strengthening protection knowledge, fraud resilience and household financial resilience among new immigrants.
